Dear OVH Support Team,

I'm unable to find that OVH Wiki's link. Could you please clarify that doubt as soon as possible?

Thanks in advance for your efforts.

Best Regards,
Romulo Freitas

Hello again guys. One of my clients have requested me to update a Debian 5.0 based server. I was trying to check the OVH Wiki link, where it says how we can update the server's kernel on our own. Happens that it's not available anymore and I can't find it. Could you please help me out?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Cheers,
Romulo Freitas

The kernel is static for security reasons.

This is because with modules come security holes.

If you want a modular kernel with no backdoors(only ssh key) you can do
it(see link below):

http://help.ovh.co.uk/InstallOvhKey

It is possible to remove the key but this will result in a slowing down
of incidents as we will not have access to the server.

At any rate, there are only a select few employees of OVH that have
access on that level.

Its not just linux, its freebsd too.
OVH why do you do this?

Most people don't like to have their server kernel tampered with and
backdoors installed, even if we can remove them.

I believe that this section in our wiki can be of great help:

http://ovhwiki.com/index.php/Installing_your_own_kernel

If you follow this guide you should be able to compile your own kernel
to suit your requirements.

Hope that helps.

Hello there guys. I've ordered an MG-09 AMD and I've got it deployed two
days ago and for that I would like to thanks OVH for all efforts you
guys put into it. However I've ordered my server and also requested
Ubuntu Server 8.04 LTS 64bit edition to be installed on it, which it
came exactly like I've requested. Happens that I'm trying to compiling
and installing some third-part softwares and I'm unable to do it so
because the kernel is patched by OVH. So I am asking if my server can be
reinstalled again using the following link http://tinyurl.com/n3borj.

I really would like to have this doubt responded as soon as possible.

Thanks in advance for your time.
