New distribution: Fedora 17 "Beefy Miracle"

06-01-2012, 02:14 PM

The latest Fedora distribution, version 17 is now available. It's called "Beefy Miracle" and was released less than 48 hours ago.

The Fedora distributions always bring plenty new features and innovation. It's like a little playground for RedHat developers: what is good and stable is most likely to find its way into the next RHEL version (thus also CentOS) and other distributions.

Even if the majority of new features/changes concern the desktop, there are also some significant changes without a graphical environment:
- No more /lib/, /lib64/, /bin/ and /sbin/, everything is in /usr (it means that it's no longer possible to have a /usr partition without using a initrd)
- A sandbox that can isolate applications with KVM or LXC, without visualising a complete OS
- The OpenStack layer for Cloud deployments is integrated
- A Fedora version 17 adapted for ARM processors is planned

For further details about his new distribution that we offer you in 64 bit at the re-installation as well as during the order process, see the Release Notes:
